There was not a lot of respect for
women, and certainly not a lot of affirmation given to women before Jesus came
along. He responded to women: In John 12:2-3 Martha served Him and
Mary anointed his feet. In Luke 8:43-48 there was the woman who had a
flow of blood for 12 years. She touched the hem of His garment and was
healed. She was healed because she came to Him in faith.
But Jesus said, "Let her alone; she has
kept this for the day of My burial.
John 12:7
John 12:7
And now here was this woman who was
despised and had a great deal of problems. She was an outcast, a sinner
and no doubt, without respect, and without respect from the whole town.
The encounter that Jesus had with
the woman at the well was a "divine appointment." John 4:4
tells us He “needed” to go through Samaria. He knew the woman was waiting
to meet her Messiah – she just didn’t know it yet. Reflect back when you
asked Jesus to come into your heart. Maybe there were fireworks – maybe
not. Or maybe you thought your life was such that Jesus would never
reveal Himself to a person like you. Know that Jesus loves you.
"Come to Me, all you who labor
and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn
from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your
souls.”
Matthew
11:28-29
